Our Rich History

Established in 1867, Camberwell Primary School has a long and proud history of serving the local community. From its early days as a small local school, it has grown into a vibrant educational institution renowned for its innovative programs and strong community spirit.

Over the decades, CPS has adapted to the changing needs of its students and society, consistently striving for excellence in education. The introduction of the French-English bilingual program in 1991 marked a significant milestone, further enriching our educational offering and solidifying our reputation as a forward-thinking school.

Camberwell Primary School is honoured to have received the prestigious LabelFrancÉducation seal, awarded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. This accreditation recognizes schools outside of France that provide students with an enriched French bilingual education.

Capital Works Master Plan

Camberwell Primary School is delivering our Capital Works Master Plan to strengthen learning environments for our students and community. Updates below are maintained in site content so dates and stages can change without a code release.

Progress overview

  1. Stage 1 — Historic Building

    Funded

    Funding secured — works in progress

    Refurbishment of the Historic Building, including modern and inclusive toilet facilities and accessibility improvements to support student experience.

  2. Stages 2–3 — New learning spaces

    Planned

    Planning and future delivery

    Planned works include a new three-storey building for Years 5/6 and Art/STEM spaces, and a refresh of the BER/Performing Arts area.

In a significant community development, Reserve Road adjacent to the school has been approved for closure as of Term 1, 2025, transforming the area and enhancing student safety and green spaces as part of the community hub vision.

We are excited about these developments and will keep our community updated on progress. These enhancements will help CPS continue to provide an exceptional learning environment for generations to come.
